Get Up: The Art of Perseverance. Adam Greenberg's Story

onGet up | the art of perseverance
A truly inspirational story - a must read for any baseball fan and a fan of life!
On July 9th, 2005, no one suspected the triumph of Adam Greenberg's first major-league plate appearance with the Chicago Cubs would be obliterated by an errant 92 mile-an-hour first-pitch fastball. He didn’t know it at the time, but that pitch was a gift. Now he offers his story of overcoming adversity and persevering through challenges in hopes of helping you pursue your dreams in life.
- “If F. Scott Fitzgerald had envisioned Adam Greenberg, he might never have said, ‘There are no second acts in American lives.’”
— Willie Weinbaum, ESPN
“Adam Greenberg is what you might call a brutal optimist. When he sits across the table and tells his story, the words run so counter to his manner - the words are tragic, the rest of him immutably upbeat. You start imagining that you could travel back in time and airdrop him into history’s nastiest infernos just to watch him get up and grin and start plotting his escape.”
— Stephen J. Dubner, author “Jewish Jocks” essay “Once-Hit Wonder”, and Co-Author “Freakonomics”
“Do you know this player Adam Greenberg?” he asked. “Seven years ago, he was a rookie, and in his very first at-bat he got hit in the head with the ball — knocked out, concussed, out of the league.” Seinfeld raised an index finger from the wheel: “One pitch.” The Marlins had agreed to sign Greenberg for a single day after fans petitioned on his behalf. “It might seem a bit Jewy if I get too excited about it — I wish he wasn’t Jewish,” Seinfeld said. “But it’s a fascinating story. One at-bat after seven years. Think of the pressure on this guy!”
— Jerry Seinfeld, Actor and Comedian
